- Ladislao Salmerón (University of Valencia, Spain): „Generational and developmental changes in digital reading habits and text comprehension“ | Previous research has evidenced a strong positive relationship between print reading habits and reading comprehension across the lifespan. To what extend the rapid evolution of new forms of leisure digital reading could modify such relationship? In this talk I will present ongoing research that analyzes generational and developmental changes in digital reading habits. A major goal is to relate such changes with readers’ development of text comprehension abilities.
- Gerhard Lauer (Johannes Gutenberg‐Universität Mainz): „I am reading a CLASSIC. Wohooooooo Social Reading and Writing Practices of Today‘s Adolescents“ | Reading become more popular, and publishers’ revenues are better than ever, but the way specifically young people read and write have changed. The main of the change is the pragmatics of reading, only partly to be find in new genres. The way how people participate in book reading, how much books are just one of many forms of reading media, and how publishers react to the dynamics of new reading habits is or should be the topic of reading research. However, only a combination of computational and experimental reading research, cultural sociology, psychology and book history is able to analyze the rapid changes in reading.
